Growing Interest in Nutrition Research
Fuels Record Sales
SUMAS, Wash. — December 14, 2005 — Feedlogic Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of swine nutrition management technology, has reported a record year of sales for its 2005 fiscal year. The sales increase was driven by a growing demand for flexible nutrition research tools in commercial barns.
Feedlogic develops and manufactures robotic feed systems and associated communications networks which allow precision feeding techniques including “on-the-fly” blending of diets as well as real-time monitoring of feed intake.
“This has been a very important year for us,” said Drew Ryder, Feedlogic CEO. “We doubled the number of systems in operation, doubled the number of staff, and opened a new manufacturing and R&D facility.”
Ryder attributed the sales growth to increasing interest in precision feeding and swine nutrition research from a broad range of interests. “What’s interesting is that we are selling to all types of hog production organizations -- from small family-owned farrow-to-finish operations to multi-million-dollar corporations conducting world-leading nutrition research,” he said.
“For all of these organizations, it’s about empowerment. For years, what really happens in commercial barns has been shrouded in mystery. We provide a set of tools which they can use in a standard commercial barn and allow them to understand the factors that impact performance and variation.
“More and more producers are seeing the value in measurement and the ability to make the improvements when they understand what’s really going on.”
The Feedlogic system consists of a self-propelled feed delivery unit which travels on a rail and dispenses feed automatically into individual feeders. The weight and time of each delivery is recorded and transmitted live via a wireless network to an off-board computer. Each system can be monitored and managed remotely via a landline connection.
Ryder said the company was devoting a lot of its resources to improving its current system and developing important enhancements. “We have hired additional engineering staff to accelerate development of new products that our customers are asking for,” he said. “Next year, we expect to launch a number of new products unlike anything else currently available.
“We are also partnering on some trials on hog farms in British Columbia which will demonstrate the value of blended feeding in a number of different housing environments.”
